A Psychic Dog?

Ok well I was just browsing the psyblog website and I happened to run into and interesting article posted on there. I read an article about a lady who thought her dog was psychic. The dog, Jaytee, was claimed to have been able to psychically sense when her owner was returning home. This brought lots of media, which filmed this remarkable dog doing just as the owner said-- Jaytee was filmed running out to the porch and awaiting his owner. But was all this just a coincidence? Well, one professor wasn't convinced and conducted some experiments of his own. He made sure no one knew when Jaytee's owner was to arrive home. She was to come home at a random time to prove that the dog could have just ran out to wait at the same time every day as a routine. The professor was right, it was just a coincidence. The dog just happened to know that about the same time each day his owner would come home. This article not only proves that dogs don't have psychic abilities, but humans too. Anyways, I though this was real intriguing and I find it similar to the same study of humans having psychic powers. We simply do not have psychic powers.

Thinking Critically

Research allows us to learn new aspects of life and learn how some people function. Also, research can discover things that we may not even realize until we conduct the research. Overall, researching shows how something reacts and its functions in every day life. It may even display proof of some things that should be changed or how it is crucial to not change it.

A research article that I read titled, Why You Can't Help Believing Everything You Read, I felt was relevant to my life. This article conducted a research on how different people believe what the media says. It's just our first instinct to believe what we are reading. As stated in the article we believe first, then ask questions later. After reading this, it really shocked me actually because I do this! My first response is to believe whatever I'm reading, then later when I've thought about it for a while I realize that what the media says may not be true.

I learned how both animal and human research subjects are protected. This is important to me because it would bother a lot of people knowing they may have caused harm to someone or something by conducting a research project. I also learned that scientific attitude is important to ensure the essential parts of critical thinking. Then I learned how researchers gather data. This is important because the data has to be precise to ensure the outcome.

Blogs- Yahoo!

Well, at the beginning of this semester I believed Psychology to be the study of how different people think and their reactions. I still believe that, but it's a lot more than what I expected. Now I realize that Psychology encompasses pretty much everything about a person; how a person thinks, behaves, and feel in certain issues. Since I have reviewed chapter 1 I've noticed how in depth and scientific Psychology is. Psychology covers the details of aspects that we experience in life.
Personally, I think that Psychology affects my every day decisions. Every day I have to decide what I think is right or how I want to achieve in an activity. By this I'm making choices based upon how I was taught and raised to.
I learned about psychology's biggest issue; the nature-nurture issue, which I find interesting because it raises questions for not only me, but others as well. For instance, it makes me wonder if we develop traits through experience or are we born with them. Learning about Pyschology's founding was intriguing because now I know how the study of Psychology got its start.

Introduction

Hi everyone! My name is Bethany van Doorn, but a lot of people call me Beth. I am 17 years old and a senior at Flambeau High School. This is my second year in public school and at Flambeau. Before I attended Flambeau I was homeschooled all my life. I am the youngest of 7 children in my family. I believe being the youngest of 7 children has impacted who I am in so many ways. Being the youngest has taught me to be patient, understanding, and cooperative with all my brothers and sisters. These abilities have helped me in every day activities like school and sports. I think that learning psychology is important because it allows a person to see issues in different ways and understand how other people think. To me, psychology is the study of how different people think and their reactions.
